Carl qualified from the University of Bradford in 2001. Carl is now an advanced clinical practitioner, physiotherapist and independent prescriber. He he has completed extensive training above and beyond that of a general physiotherapist.  He has over 20 years experience in orthopaedic medicine in the NHS, private and elite sporting sectors.  He has worked in International, Super League and Championship Rugby League for Rugby League Ireland, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Featherstone and Batley.

Being an independent prescriber means he is is able to issue prescriptions for medications such as stronger painkillers and medications specifically for nerve pain. This means our patients will no longer have lengthy waits to see the GP to obtain better pain medication.  He is also  able to perform pain management reviews for those who need to step up or step down their pain medication.

Carl is also joining our team to offer a joint and soft tissue injection therapy service using  cortisone or sodium hyaluronate (typically Ostenil). Typically Carl will perform anatomy guided injections to ensure the accuracy of needle placement. If the needle hits the right spot, the treatment is more likely to be effective.

Carl currently work as an Extended Scope Practitioner in the NHS and he is also a tutor on the Rugby League’s immediate medical management course, helping to train the next generation of sports medics.

Outside of work Carl is a season ticket holder at Liverpool FC (don’t hold that against him!) and a father of two young boys.
