Physiotherapy
At Back to Fitness Physio, physiotherapy is at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing pain, or simply trying to move better, we’re here to help. Our team of expert physios take the time to understand the root cause of your problem – not just treat your symptoms – so you get long-lasting results, not quick fixes. With hands-on treatment, tailored rehab plans, and honest advice, we’ll support you every step of the way, from your very first appointment through to full recovery.
Who Typically Benefits From Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is for anyone experiencing pain, stiffness, or loss of function — whether it’s from a recent injury, long-standing issue, or a flare-up of something you’ve managed for years. We help people get back to work, sport, hobbies, and everyday life, using a mix of hands-on treatment, tailored rehab, and expert advice.
We regularly treat sporty adults, active teenagers, and those who simply want to stay mobile and independent. While we’re not specialist paediatric physios, we’re well equipped to work with older children and teenagers who are dealing with musculoskeletal issues from sport, growth, or school life. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a runner with a niggle, or someone simply fed up with being in pain — we’ll help you move better, feel better, and stay that way.
What Does Physiotherapy Involve?
Every physiotherapy session begins with a thorough assessment. We’ll chat through your symptoms, look at how you move, assess posture and alignment, and identify any underlying issues that may be contributing to your pain. From there, we work through a clear four-stage plan designed to get you better — and keep you that way.
Phase one focuses on reducing immediate pain or discomfort — this is usually the main reason people book in. We use a combination of hands-on treatment, techniques like K-Laser, shockwave therapy or acupuncture, and simple advice to settle things down. Phase two is early rehab — the point where we introduce gentle exercises to improve mobility and begin rebuilding strength. Phase three moves into more progressive strength work and resilience training to help prevent the issue from coming back. Phase four is where many of our patients choose to maintain their progress by joining our physio-led exercise classes at the Rehab Barn in Rishworth — from Reformer Pilates to strength, balance or recovery-based classes.
Benefits and Outcomes of Physiotherapy Treatment
The goal of physiotherapy is simple: to help you move better and feel better — whether you’re struggling with a recent injury, managing a long-standing issue, or recovering after surgery. Our treatments aim to reduce pain, improve movement, restore strength, and support your body’s natural healing process so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy.
Physiotherapy can lead to better posture, increased flexibility, improved joint function, and more confidence in your body. It helps reduce the risk of re-injury by addressing the root cause, not just the symptoms. Whether you’re training for a marathon, chasing after your kids, working a physical job, or just want to feel stronger day-to-day, our approach is practical, honest, and designed around your goals. We’re here to help you live, work and move without pain holding you back.

Physiotherapy FAQs
What does a Physiotherapist do?
A physiotherapist helps people recover from injury, reduce pain, and improve movement using a combination of hands-on treatment, exercise, and education. They assess what’s causing the issue and guide you back to doing the things you love.
Are physios doctors?
No — physiotherapists are highly trained healthcare professionals, but not medical doctors. You don’t need a GP referral to see one privately.
What to wear to a physio appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, like leggings, shorts, or a vest top. We may need to assess the area directly, so clothing that allows access to the painful body part is ideal.
Can a physio help arthritis?
Yes — physiotherapy is one of the best ways to manage arthritis. We can help reduce stiffness and pain, improve joint function, and show you how to move in a way that protects your joints. Our Back to Activity classes are designed to help manage long term conditions like arthritis.
Can a physio help sciatica?
Absolutely. We’ll assess what’s irritating your sciatic nerve, ease pain and tension, and guide you through exercises to relieve symptoms and prevent flare-ups.
Can a physio help neck pain?
Yes. Whether it’s caused by posture, injury, or tension, physio can reduce pain, improve movement, and help prevent future problems.
Can a physio help back pain?
Definitely. Back pain is one of the most common things we treat — and most people feel improvement with a mix of hands-on treatment, advice, and exercise.
How to self refer for physio?
Just book online or call us directly — you don’t need a GP referral to access private physiotherapy.
How much does a physio cost?
Our initial assessment appointments start from £60. We also offer treatment bundles and payment plans to help you save if you need ongoing support.
Should I see a private physiotherapist?
If you’re looking for fast access, a thorough assessment, and a personalised plan without long waiting times, then yes — private physio is a great option.
Can I still come if I’ve already seen an NHS physio?
Yes, of course. Many of our clients come to us after limited NHS sessions or if they want a more personalised, longer-term approach.
How long will it take to feel better?
Many people feel an improvement after just 1–2 sessions, but long-term recovery depends on the issue and your commitment to the rehab plan. We’ll always explain what to expect at your first visit.
What happens at the first appointment?
You’ll have a full assessment, where we listen to your story, examine how you move, and explain what’s going on. You’ll usually start treatment or rehab in that first session.
Can I still come if I’m in a lot of pain?
Yes — you don’t need to wait until things settle down. We can adapt treatment to suit your pain levels and help get things moving safely.
Where do your sessions take place?
Initial assessments and early rehab are usually at our Ripponden clinic. Once you’re ready to progress, we can continue your rehab at our dedicated Physio Rehab Barn in Rishworth.
Do you treat children or teenagers?
Yes — we treat older children and teenagers for sports injuries, growing pains, and joint or movement issues. Just get in touch to see if we’re the right fit for your child’s needs.
Do you offer women’s health or menopause-related physiotherapy?
Yes — we offer classes and rehab for women in perimenopause and beyond.
Do you treat sports injuries?
Yes, lots! Whether you’re an elite athlete or a weekend walker, we treat sprains, strains, tendinopathies, and more — and help you get back to sport safely.

Do you offer post-op rehab?
We do. Whether you’ve had a joint replacement, spinal surgery or an arthroscopy, we’ll support your recovery with expert, progressive rehab.

Can I bring someone with me?
Of course — you’re welcome to bring a friend or family member to support you during your appointment.
What if I need more than physio?
If we think you need imaging, a specialist referral, or further investigation, we’ll always let you know and help you take the next step.
