Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a seasoned athlete, or just someone who enjoys being active, sports injuries can be frustrating and limiting. Our sports physiotherapy service is here to help you recover fully, safely, and as quickly as possible — with a clear plan tailored to your sport, goals, and lifestyle. Our experienced physios will guide you through every stage of the recovery process and help reduce the risk of future injuries.
Who Typically Benefits From Sports Physio?
Sports physio is ideal for anyone experiencing pain, injury, or performance issues related to physical activity. We treat a wide range of patients — from recreational gym-goers and runners, to teenage footballers, weekend cyclists, and elite-level competitors.
Common issues we see include ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendinopathy, joint pain (particularly shoulder, knee, and ankle), post-surgical rehab, and recurring overuse injuries. We also work with those looking to improve their biomechanics, running technique, or return to sport safely after time off. Whether you’re training for a marathon or just want to be able to enjoy your Sunday five-a-side, we can help.
Physiotherapy for Dancers, Swimmers & Artistic Swimmers
We’re proud to offer a highly specialist physiotherapy service for dancers, swimmers, and artistic swimmers — led by Rosie Clarke, our advanced physio and former international artistic swimmer. Rosie represented Great Britain at the highest level and worked as a physiotherapist and coach for Swim England, giving her a unique insight into the physical and performance demands of these disciplines.
This isn’t just general sports physio — this is targeted, informed care from someone who knows the movements, understands the terminology, and gets the injuries. Whether it’s an overworked hip from turnout, a spinal load issue from repetitive backbends, a rotator cuff problem from fly technique, or instability from hypermobility — Rosie has seen it, treated it, and trained through it herself.
She works with pre-professional and elite-level swimmers, as well as passionate young athletes who need careful support to manage growth, workload, and technique — while still performing at their best.
There is no other physio in the North of England with Rosie’s level of experience in this space. If your child dances, swims, or does artistic swimming and needs help with injury, rehab or performance, this is the clinic to come to.
What Does Sports Physio Involve?
Your first session includes a thorough assessment of your injury, movement patterns, strength, and biomechanics. We’ll look at how your body is moving, identify any asymmetries or weak links, and put together a treatment plan that meets your goals — whether that’s getting back to sport, preventing re-injury, or improving performance.
Treatment may include manual therapy, joint or soft tissue work, taping, acupuncture, shockwave or K-Laser therapy, and most importantly, a progressive rehab and strengthening programme.
We follow a staged approach: Phase 1 tackles pain and inflammation, Phase 2 begins targeted rehab, Phase 3 builds resilience and sports-specific strength, and Phase 4 supports long-term results — often through our rehab classes at our Physio Rehab Barn.
Benefits and Outcomes of Service Treatment
The goal of sports physio isn’t just to treat your current injury — it’s to prevent it happening again.
With the right treatment and rehab, you’ll recover faster, reduce pain, and restore full mobility and function. Our approach is tailored to your specific sport or activity, so you can return stronger, more confident, and with a better understanding of how your body moves. Many of our patients report not just recovery, but improved performance and fewer injuries going forward.
Whether you’re aiming for a race PB or just want to stay active without worry, sports physio is a smart investment in your long-term physical health.

Sports Physio FAQs
What conditions can sports physiotherapy help treat?
Sports physio can help with muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendinopathies (e.g. Achilles, rotator cuff), joint injuries, post-surgical rehab, biomechanical issues, and sports-related back, shoulder, knee, or ankle pain.
How many sessions will I need to recover from my injury?
It depends on the severity of the injury and your goals. Many patients need between 4–10 sessions over several weeks, with more complex injuries or return-to-sport programmes taking longer. We’ll give you a clear plan in your first session.
What should I expect during my first sports physio appointment?
You’ll have a full assessment to understand your injury, movement, and goals. We’ll explain the diagnosis clearly, start treatment, and give you a plan for rehab and recovery.
Can sports physiotherapy help improve my athletic performance?
Yes — by improving your biomechanics, strength, movement efficiency and addressing any weak links or asymmetries, we help you move better, reduce injury risk, and often perform better too.
How can I prevent future sports injuries through physiotherapy?
Once you’ve recovered, we focus on building resilience through strength and conditioning, education, and technique improvements. Many of our patients continue with classes or maintenance appointments to stay strong and injury-free.
Do I need to be an athlete to book a sports physio session?
Not at all. If you’re active and want to move better, feel stronger, or recover from an injury — you’re in the right place.
What qualifications do your sports physiotherapists have?
All our physios are HCPC-registered and have extensive experience treating sports injuries across all levels — from grassroots to elite. Many have post-graduate training in areas like Sports & Exercise Medicine, manual therapy, and advanced rehabilitation techniques.
Do you have experience working with high-level athletes?
Yes — several members of our team have worked with national-level athletes and professional sports teams. We bring the same level of care and evidence-based practice to every patient, no matter their level of sport or activity.
Can you help with biomechanical issues or recurring injuries?
Yes. One of our strengths is identifying and addressing the root cause of injuries, not just treating the symptoms. We assess the way you move, spot weaknesses or imbalances, and design a plan to fix them properly.
Do you work with young athletes?
We’re not specialist paediatric physios, but we regularly work with active teenagers and older children with musculoskeletal or sport-related injuries — particularly common issues like Osgood-Schlatter’s, Sever’s disease, growing pains, sprains, and overuse injuries.
Is your clinic equipped to support advanced rehab?
Yes. We’re fortunate to have The Physio Rehab Barn in Rishworth — a purpose-built space with gym equipment, Pilates reformers, and class-based rehab options that help bridge the gap between injury and return to full sport.
