BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc Modules in Orthopaedic Medicine & Injection Therapy, Independent Prescriber
Hi, I’m Carl — an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Extended Scope Physiotherapist and independent prescriber with over 20 years of experience in orthopaedic medicine. I qualified from the University of Bradford in 2001 and have since worked across the NHS, private healthcare, and elite sport.
I currently work in primary care in Huddersfield, providing MSK services across GP surgeries and triaging patients referred into the system. My role includes advanced clinical assessment, requesting investigations such as X-rays, MRI, CT and nerve studies, and referring patients on to specialists in orthopaedics, rheumatology or other appropriate services. I also hold an independent prescribing qualification, which means I can prescribe stronger painkillers, nerve pain medications, and offer pain management reviews — without the need for GP delays.
As part of the Back to Fitness Physio team, I offer joint and soft tissue injection therapy using cortisone or sodium hyaluronate (Ostenil). I typically use detailed anatomical guidance to ensure precise needle placement — which means more effective results, especially for persistent joint or tendon pain.
Alongside my clinical work, I’m a tutor on the Rugby League’s Immediate Medical Management on the Field of Play (IMMOFP) course and have worked for over two decades in elite Rugby League with teams including Wakefield, Dewsbury, Featherstone, Batley and Rugby League Ireland.
Outside of work, I’m a proud dad to two young boys, and a lifelong Liverpool FC supporter (please don’t hold that against me!). Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing pain, or need a more advanced intervention — I’m here to help.
