We went to the ball, and hereβs a photo to prove it.
The Happy Days βOrange is the New Blackβ ball, to be exact β raising money for the homeless in Calderdale (of which there are many, by the way).
It was a hugely successful event and raised Β£85,000 for the charity. We did our bit and donated a silent auction prize, for which someone very generously paid Β£1000.
Thank you
You know who you areΒ .
We had a fantastic evening with lots of laughs. We even threw a few shapes on the dance floor β Susan and I swinging each other around to The Proclaimersβ β500 Milesβ was a sight to behold. # still got itΒ .
However, the evening also had a sombre message. We heard a few unfortunate stories about ordinary people who had had hard times in their lives, many at no fault of their own, and who had then found themselves without anywhere to live. Some were in a terrible state and required medical care and intensive support from the charity.
There were happy endings to the stories we heard, but many arenβt so lucky. The happy endings also had a common theme: they had all found the courage to ask for help.
Recognising when you need some support and being able to ask for it is a brave thing to do. It paid off hugely for these people who had managed to recover and turn their lives around.
This is the storyβs moral β when you are out of your depth, donβt be too afraid to ask for help. Talk to the people who understand and can help direct the path through the problem.
I know that for many of us, our problems pale insignificantly compared to these peopleβs stories. However, pain and injury can also be very debilitating and can affect a personβs mental health.
We are the people you can turn to in this event, and you can expect us to be able to guide you through the recovery process.
If you need us, weβre here.
All the best,
Charlotte.
